Sunday, September 20, 2009 Album 6 now outGhost Symbol vs. Gleek vs. Staci Maggot 8:49 Lenticular Bop 4:16 Mechanism 8:49 Green Goblin 3:42 Wiggle 17:04 Storm Door Perception 4:29 Moby Fish Stick Kabob Recorded 4/20/2009 at Chris' going away party, cut down 5 months to the day. Represent of 3 bands in various play. Oddly, the 2 new songs clock at the same time. Lenticular Bop was an idea that been talked about. Mechanism is an old Staci Maggot song Jon had started writing in Atlanta in '96 and was spurred on by pile drivers at the bus stop in Ballston. Gleek had performed it live a couple of times and it exists in various recorded forms. A local artist is interested in doing vid for it (from the Gleek live show at Iota). Here, it's kind of noisy and gives way to Green Goblin, which just happened; Absenthe was involved....Wiggle is a Gleek staple and fan favorite; fish sticks are involved. Storm Door Perception is epic in every sense of the word and Moby Fish Stick Kabob is smoking hot. Wednesday, December 24, 2008 Thanks to all who made the Virginia Hospital Benefit such a fun night! Seeing a bunch of our friends play (El Quattro, Phoebus, Tim Bracken, Bobby T, Airport Blvd.), getting a taste of more (Kat Parsons, Zelos, the Process and others, forgot the list everybody), and making a bunch of noise for them was a delight. Our set was microcosms of Storm Door Perception and Moby Dick Kabob. They kinda got off the ground, jelled alittle and then broke like overcooked Bernaise sauce. We ended up snatching defeat from the jaws of victory with a shaky Chugalug, don't think anyone was on the same page until we ended it. Thanks again everybody! Sunday, December 21, 2008 -Hometown Holiday Benefit Gala- Come to the IOTAclubandcafe.com on Tuesday, December 23rd, for the Virginia Hospital Center Foundation, providing medical services to low income families and those in need. *FEATURING* The Process, Timothy Bracken, Phoebus, El Quatro, Airport Blvd, Ghost Symbol, The Jackfields, Kat Parsons, JP Hyland, Zelos, Hotspur, Ian and Tyler of Once OK Twice We're on 9ish, but it's going to be a night of a lot of wonderful music! recap: iota live with Space for Space Thanks to everyone who came. Our set: Moby Dick Kabob, Storm Door Perception, Planet Terror (w. Chugalug), Bo's Sputnik, Shut Your Eyes and Floor It. Everything got recorded, except the first one due to technical difficulties. Ok, I plugged the line in in the wrong line in; thankfully, Dan the sound man caught it early (thanks!). Space for Space were alot of fun! Rachel and MC have the most beautiful smiles, and girls, the guys in the band are pretty nifty, too! They pretty much filled the club (some of our good friends were there, too) and everybody was pretty cool, even had some nice things to say about our set. Monday, June 02, 2008 RIP Ellas McDaniel Goodbye, Bo. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/02/AR2008060201123.html?hpid=topnews Good article: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E01E6DF113AF935A25751C0A9659C8B63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=1 Bob: Funny, I was thinking about his Checker stuff yesterday-a lot of his instrumentals sound like they're from Mars via Africa. The album is out, track listing: Moby Dick Kabob 5:27 (Prelude) 1:29 Storm Door Perception 9:32 Chugalug 9:19 Ghost Shuffle Boogie 9:36 rcc 10:11 More Coffee Please 2:03 Bo's Sputnik 9:45 drop us a line here or email notionsunlimited(at)gmail(dot)com $5 really a disc is what 10-20 cents, the gatefold cover cost $1-2, postage is around $1.50, there's electricity and instrument maintenance.... honestly, we're inclined to say come talk to us and show proof of contribution to a charitable organization or clear intent to, and we'll get you a package. This what we do; it's our passion. Cheers Sunday, September 23, 2007 song update (tredux) Bo's Sputnik is up now. It was the last ten minutes of the July jam of which More Coffee Please (10 listens) was a transitional openner during a twenty minute section. Jon was going to call it Jungle Space Bop 'cause that described the flow, then Bo Diddley Space Bop from Bob's direction at the end. Bob heard this and then said call it "Bo's Sputnik", anybody who knows will know why. Jon starts with a Jungle Space groove that Chris and Bob wrangle around and finally Bob asserts the twang. Bear with it, it's kinda fun. Saturday, September 22, 2007 RIP Marcel Marceau Friday, August 17, 2007 song update (redux) More Coffee Please - this is a transitional section from the 7th jam of the 4th session. It lay between Not So Sharply Dressed and the Bo Diddley Space Bop. rcc - 2nd jam of the 4th session. uh, you'll get the name.... ok, totals from those replaced: 11 - Prelude 23 - Moby Dick Kabob 14 - Storm Door Perception (1st session, edit) 13 - Chugalug Friday, July 20, 2007 new songs Ghost Shuffle Boogie - the first jam from the fourth session (20070714). mic didn't pick up the guitar as well this time. Storm Door Perception - from the third session (20070601). complete (at least when I get it uploaded correctly). Wednesday, July 04, 2007 RIP Boots Randolph I (this is the Jon speaking) remember when I auditioned for the college music program. I played a prepared piece (a Verdi interpretation that I had done for state) and the classical (Ron Thomas) and jazz professors were at least convinced that I was some slob that could play. They asked what tract I was interested in and I said I wasn't sure, we proposed performance saxophone. Doug Richards (the jazz prof) asked if I knew anything else and I think I joked about playing the cantina band theme from Star Wars, which amused both of them, but also Yakety Sax. He called my bluff. I had taught myself the part by recording it on my dad's real-to-real and slowing it down half speed in order to transcribe and pick up all the nuances of performance. It's over a C-G vamp i think. I played it. I don't think I actually sounded like Boots, but they welcomed me to the music program. Wednesday, July 04, 2007 Washington City Paper mention...sort of online at least, thanks Dave! http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/indc/drummer/2007/spot0622.html Content: Jon also sent along a link to Bob Craver's latest effort, Ghost Symbol. (You remember Bob from his Bourbon Dynasty Pop Quiz.) Jon says, "I've been telling Bob that I'm challenging his win record, and he points out that all his were consecutive. Oh, well, he really whips it out on "Chugalug." That he does. Jon adds, "We're probably not even close to the Man >From the Future's win count." Ah, but getting closer, closer... Wednesday, July 04, 2007 the songs lo-fi one mic one take Prelude - this is a minute and a half slice out of a 15 min. abstract jam about 3 minutes in. most of the major themes appear which set up the rest of the piece. recorded in January 2007. the first session is heavy on bass due to placement of the mic. Moby Dick Kabob - this is a variation on a riff from the first movement of the Jon's rock opera "The Ballad of Falling Rock and Suzi Sioux". Jon says: the name came about because I drove in past the Moby Dick House of Kabob, and was wondering what one would order there....it's the jam complete and unplanned, Jon turned around the first minute and faded it in 'cause that's where we were feeling it out and it doesn't take off until Bob nails his motif at that point Storm Door Perception - another riff that appears only briefly (8 bars) in BFRSS mvmnt 1. this is just the first four and a half minutes before it kicks into a wild fracas, thematically this holds together as is; will put up the whole thing next time on wifi Chugalug - from the second session recorded in March 2007, placement of the mic picks up guitar and drums better, bass not so much. starts out as a jam on "Lights Out" by UFO. Bob pulls a few tricks out of his bag
